about

Tara Kei 〈多良 佳〉

After graduating from Saga Art College in Japan, Kei Tara embarked on a journey to South Asia, spending two years studying in India before settling in Nepal. She initially immersed herself in the Karma Gadri style of Tibetan Thangka painting at the Tsering Art School, affiliated with Shechen Monastery. Driven by a deep fascination with traditional Himalayan art, she later transitioned to Paubha, the sacred and intricate ritual art of Nepal's Newar community. Under the guidance of renowned masters, including Mr. Lok Chitrakar and other prestigious artists from the Nepal Association of Fine Arts (NAFA), she dedicated five intensive years to mastering these traditional techniques.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a temporary return to Japan in April 2020, her dedication never wavered. Returning to Nepal in 2022, she further advanced her mastery of the craft under the tutelage of Mr. Ratna Bajracharya. She is currently a third-year student at Lumbini Buddhist University in the Traditional Buddhist Art program, where she deepens her academic expertise in iconography, the Ranjana script, and specialized painting methodologies. She is also the founder and principal artist of Paubha Art Studio.

Welcome to Paubha Art Studio Paubha Art Studio is a sanctuary where individuals from all walks of life and diverse religious backgrounds come together to learn the sacred art of Thangka and Paubha.

I firmly believe that art transcends boundaries. Even if your personal faith lies outside of Buddhism, a shared sense of resonance, empathy, and deep respect for the tradition is more than enough reason to embark on this artistic journey.
